Business
Millicom International Cellular S.A. (TIGO) provides fixed and mobile telecommunications services across Latin America under the TIGO and Tigo Business brands. The company offers mobile services including high-speed data, voice, short message services, and mobile financial services through TIGO Money encompassing payments, money transfers, international remittances, savings, real-time loans, and micro-insurance; cable and pay-TV services via TIGO ONEtv and TIGO Sports for local entertainment and sports broadcasting; fixed-line broadband, fixed voice, and fiber-cable services; and business-to-business solutions such as managed services, cloud, security, value-added services, and tower infrastructure. It serves residential consumers, small, medium, and large businesses, and governmental entities in markets including Bolivia, Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, and expansions into Ecuador and Uruguay. Founded in 1990 and headquartered in Luxembourg with a U.S. corporate office in Coral Gables, Florida, Millicom operates digital highways reaching over 45 million mobile and fiber-cable customers and more than 13 million homes passed as of late 2023. The company focuses on emerging markets in Latin America, emphasizing affordable prepaid services, digital inclusion, and converged packages bundling broadband with wireless offerings. Recent strategic expansions include the completion of its USD 380 million acquisition of Telefonica's operations in Ecuador in October 2025, enhancing its South American footprint; the USD 440 million acquisition of Telefonica's operations in Uruguay announced in May 2025; and a definitive agreement in March 2025 to acquire Telefonica's 67.5% stake in Colombia's Coltel for approximately USD 400 million (adjusted to USD 362 million), alongside an offer for the remaining stake in UNE, aimed at consolidating market scale, realizing network synergies, and accelerating digital transformation in these countries. These moves represent a shift toward intensified focus on Latin America, following prior divestitures from Africa and Asia. Millicom employs around 16,500 people and trades on NASDAQ (TIGO) and Nasdaq Stockholm (TIGO_SDB).
